Montgomery [Jun?] 15^th^ 1860
To his Excellency A. B. Moore Governor of Ala.
Dr Sir:
I was one of the counsel who defended Randolph L. Gray + I remember well the gentrified appearance of the prisoner: I thought then that the jury might well leave acquainted entirely. The testimony of against him was not of a very reliable character: the peace at which the killing took place [unknown] lead home influence in producing a conviction. It was at a house of ill fame and the inmates thereof were the [intermission?] whose evidence he was convicted. + this evidence was to him intent conflicting. I have aim the [articals?] of the physician at the penitentiary. + also the recommendation of the jury (born of [unknown]) who need the case. I fully concur with them in asking [you?] for the interposition of executive clemency. I hope you will find it [unknown] with your device of public duty to grant the prayer of this Petition.
Very respectfully,
J. H. Walt
