Dear Sir
Enclosed I send you the petition of a large number of Citizens of this Town and neighborhood, praying for the remission of a fine. You will find the facts set forth in the petition – The facts upon which the appeal to your clemency is based. I can here only say in addition to what I have already said in the petition, that I think the remission of this fine will be an act of Mercy that will promote rather than [?] the buds of justice.
In this reviewing an acquaintance with your Excellency. Which was so pleasant in former years but which has been to long suspended. I Tender you my sincere congratulations upon your [?] to the chief may in Tracy of the State. And my preforms no [?] you personally.
