To the Hon [[Moore, Andrew B. (Andrew Barry), 1807-1873.|A. B. Moore]], Governor of the State of Alabama.
The undersigned would most respectfully represent to your Honor.
That he is an aged & [?] man, (of near Eighty years.) That he is poor – having recently sold his [?] [?] which amounts to only Seventeen hundred dollars.
That he has an aged wife also, with whom he has toiled for years, to support, & lay up a small pittance to sustain them & keep them from becoming a public charge – That he has no children in this County, on whom they can confer support.
That your petition with other [?] (wholly [?]) become the [?] as the bond of Our Luke Prior in [[Pike County (Ala.)|Pike County Ala]], who was indited in the Circuit Court of said County for an [[Assault and battery|Assault & Battery]]. And, the said Luke Prior failed to appear at the Fall Term 1848, the term to which he was bound to appear.
That said bond was forfeited, and a judgement was rendered in favor of the State of Ala, US. Your [[Petitions.|petition]] & his said to security for the sum of Two Hundred dollars of the said Fall Term of said courts.
That as the Fall Term of the [[Circuit courts.|Circuit Court]] 1850 – you petitioner succeeded his bringing the [?] of the said Luke Prior into court, who plead guilty to the charge, was fined & said all cost, the - & was so discharged.
Your petitioner & [?] an [[Attorney|attorney]] to have said Judgement against him and the forfeited bond [?] - & he supported the same was done – and never knew better, while within the last year, when an Execution was issued & steps taken to collect the said sum of Two Hundred dollars & intent, out of your petitioner.
Now, Therefore, as the said Luke Prior was brought into Court & stood his Trial. Thought the efforts of his said security in two years after the said judgement was [?]. And as the sum <s> assessment<s> has now ran up to near four hundred dollars including [?] [?]. And, as that sum drawn from his meager means, would not only crush him, but, if it pleases God to spare him [?] a few years – would be required for him to [?] upon – Your petition to not humbly [?] [[Executive clemency|Executive Clemency]], & beg you to set aside said judgement so rendered against him in the [?] - or, such relief as your Hundreds meet and in duly formed, he will be.
