Dear [[Liv|Liv]]
I enclose a petition for relief of [[Fallen, Barney|Barney Fallen]] who was convicted at the ? town of [[Tuscaloosa (Ala.)|Tuscaloosa]] [unclear] [unclear] for playing at [cans?] with a [[Enslaved people|slave/s]]. The petition was [doubtedly?] prepared at my suggestion, as I remarked from the bench, that I would join in a petition to you for his relief. For perenal [masons?] some of which an put forth in the petition, I think this case is one that will discover the exercise of executive clemency. I should only have imprisoned him thirty days, if I had [hoped?] the [honour?] to do so. I would therefore [unclear] command that you [unclear] the [unclear] term of imprisonment. It will be seen that the petition is signed by [[W. Martin|The solicitor]], as well as by work of the [[Members of the bar|members of the bar]], and [[Officers of the court|officers of the court]].
Yours respectfully,
[W. Martin?]
