His Excellency [[Moore, Andrew B. (Andrew Barry), 1807-1973|Andrew B Moore]] A. B. Moore,
Dear Sir,
As the last term of the [[Circuit couts|circuit court]] of [[Coosa County (Ala.)|County of Coosa]] a [[Chancellor, Alfred|Alfred Chancellor]] & [[Chancellor, Jefferson|Jefferson Chancellor]] were tried & convicted[[Convicted|conviction]] on an indictment for [[assault and battery]] the jury[[Jury|jury]] assured the [fair] as fine [unclear] [allow?] again each - the evidence showed that that they were young men, one of [[Chancellor, William?|William? Chancellor]] & that they could not pay the fine so [assessed?]. Chancellor the father of the [alfe?], impelled by the feeling which should & could animate every human, came forward & [enforse?] [j?] for the fine rather than see his children imprisoned on the county jail, stating at the same time that he was a [[Impoverished people|poor]] man that he had other & young [-er?] children. several gentlemen, recently of the bar than [persons?], stated that Chancellor was a [great?] & worthy [page break] citizen. [Believing?] that the innocent may suffer in [enforcing?] the [collection?] of the full [amount?] of the fine so [unclear] against the young men, I would [unclear] & Executive Clemency. [His?] parties, by waving the fine against the [fine?] [unclear] [unclear] to their [hundred?] dollar & again the [Min?] to how hundred dollar-which sum will be, in my opinion, a [hard?] infliction upon a worthy father & [unclear] man for the criminality of two way-ward [sons?]
Very Respectfully yours
