You’ll please pardon my omitting to send you the enclosed Petition ere, this, The last time Mrs Mayo called on you relative to the granting of my [[Pardon|pardon]], she inadvert-lently omitted to take it with her, and as it was your request, that it might be sent to either you or the Sec. of State to be filed, I do so now,

—Though the Petition was written Mch 9<sup>th</sup>, 158.—the pardon was not granted until Mch 4<sup>th</sup>, 1859.

I cannot omit, on this occasion, tendering my heartfelt gratitude

tude to your Excellency for granting my petition, and Thereby restoring me to the society of my noble companion, and to the bosom of society

I am resolved the grace of God assist-ing my huble efforts so to act, and to live, that the kind-ness of your heart, sir, shall not be grieved, or that you shall ever have to regret the [[Clemency|clemency]] extended to
