To his Excellency
Andrew B. Moore Governor of the State of Alabama
The petition of Citizens of Mobile Some of whom as [bel?] (page folded) indicted having
Knowledge of And Engaged in the Conviction of Martin Fay who was convicted in the City Court
of Mobile for an assault to Murder our Michael Collins, And was by Said Court convicted and
sentenced to the penitentiary on the 3rd June 1858 for the Term of two years
The facts of said assault in brief on Collins & Fay worked in a Cotton yard of which Collins was
foreman, A dispute arose between them in regards to a Settlement of which led to an angry
altercation “ both parties being in liquor” when Fay Seized a piece of iron near by and struck
Collins one blow which broke his fore arm. Fay Could have repeated blows if he had desired it.
Knowing these Circumstances together with the fact of his Serving out a portion of his time in
the penitentiary the undersigned Jurors cheerfully recommend to your Excellency the Case of
Martin Fay as a just and proper one for the Exercise of Execution Clemency

Knowing him to be a poor but honest and industrious man And having a family solely
dependent upon him for support [pray?] your Excellency to grant our petition And restore him
to liberty and his family
