Sir
I received your instructions by wednesdays mail requesting me to impress negroes I will inform you that their is a man appointed and has had his order for three weaks I dont know wheather he has impressed any or not as I haven't seen him since he got the notice. I wrote to Mr. Blount the coscript agent at Mobile that I was unable to do the duty from my age I will be three score and two the first of June and had helped to conscript all the hands that has been sent from the County and it is more labour than I am able to do, it is a rough country to travel over and the negroes in scattering and far apart and it is impossible to get a man hear to help for their is but few men and none calculated to do it
I recommended Patrick McKinney and he exemped me and I wrote him that Mr. Mc Kinney was twenty years younger than my self and a suitable man to due this duty - governor I feel willing to do all that I am able for our cause but I am not able to do what you assined me a man 70 years old is near the end of his row for you know that is all that is allotted for man, and besides my age I am afflicted with piles that is very unpleasant to ride on horse back and the county is two ruff and ruged for a buggy
