Dear Sir
At the last term of the circuit court of this county [[Little, Henry A.|Henry A Little]] + [[McDaniel, Phebe|Phebe McDaniel]] [?] [were?] tried + convicted before [?] for an Assault + Battery - Little was fined One Hundred + thirty three dollars + McDaniel One Hundred + four Dollars.
Both [difts?] will petition you for a remission of at least a portion of the fines afforsaid[to?] then. The petition of Little will accompany this letter. The [?] of the [?] as testified to an [?] [?] is set forth in Little's petition, with substantial [aeei?]. I thought myself that the fines were [c?] the [?], if not [exemplifies], much more than the public good [required?]. I think a portion of the fines of each ought to be remitted - how much I am [hand?] by [prepared?] top pay.
[?] of the jury.

and a number of respectable citizens have recommended the fines [in?] Little to be reduced to $25.00.
A [reference?] to the petition, and a consideration of the facts stated in it, will enable you to determine partyly [satisfactory?] what amounts should be remitted. All that I can pay is that I think a larger partion might be [remitteed?] + that [even?] if you should reduce the amount to twenty five dollars, it will afford no [earn?] of con-tained to any one., [bank?] will no doubt meet the [givings?] [oppose-ition?]of the people of the county [?]
Yours Respectfully
