To his Excellency [[Moore, Andrew B. (Andrew Barry), 1807-1873|Andrew B. Moore]], Governor of the State of Alabama, the undersigned citizens of [[Pickens County (Ala.)|Pickens County]], in said State, respectfully represent: That at the Fall Term, 1859, of the Circuit Court of said County, the undersigned, as jurors, tried the case of the State v. [[Love, Elvin E.|Elvin E. Love]], who was indicted for [[Murder|murder]] in the second degree, committeed in depriving [[Coale, John|John Coale]], of life: that under the charge of the Court, where the evidence before us, [was?] rendered a verdict of guilty of [[Manslaughter|manslaughter]] in the first de-gree, and assessed against him a fine of five hundred dollars, and imprisonment in the County jail, in the [?] of four months: and that there are, and were, many mitigating circumstances which induce us to recommend the pris-oner, to the clemency of yur excellency, not the least of which was [heard?] of an unblemished character up to the time of the unfortunate [rec?], which re-sulted in the death of said [Coale?], in the heat of passion, and in a [mutual?], and not unfair combat, on the [heat?] of said [prisoner?]. We therefore respectfuly petition your excellency, to remmit said fine and imprisonment, or one of [Them?], and The prisoner in [poor?], or good character in peacableness, industry, and sobriety, and in The chief [support?] and comfort of an aged, and [[Widow|widowed]] [[Family|mother]].
