Before me Joseph Currie Judge of the Court of Probate in and for the County of Randolph and State of Alabama in person came Mr Owens jailor of said County who being duly sworn says that the foregoing account on the opposite page is true and correct to the best of his knowledge and belief and that he has not received any payment of the same on any part thereof either by discount or otherwise.

The State of Alabama Be fore me Joseph Currie Randolph County Judge of the Court of Probate in person came C. H. Smith who says on oath that he visited the jail with (Mr Owens the jailer) the morning after the escape of the prisoners Messrs Trent Weaver & Gregory and found that one of the cross bars had been Sawed out of the window and used as a tool for breaking through the Wooden door after Sawing the bar in two which fastend ^the Iron door. He further beleaves that Mr Owens has given a corect statement of the jail situation and condition of the jail at and be fore the time of the escape of the prisoners Mess Trent Weaver & Gregory. The State of Alabama Randolph County
Before Me Joseph Currie Judge of the Court of Probate in and for said County personally came before me this day Mr Owens Jailor of said County who being duly swor says that the jail of said County is situated on the outer edge of the town of Wedowce and that there is no enclosure around said jail, preventing the access of the public thereto, that the prisoners mentioned in the foregoing account, viz: D. C. Weaver, Cicero Gregory and N. B. Trent were confined in said jail in August 1858 and that they made their escape therefrom, by sawing a cross-bar out of the window so as to leave a sharp edge on one of the ends of the bar and also sawed onto the iron bar which fastened the iron door of the jail and then bursted the lock off of the woden and outer door of the jail, with the iron bar sawed out of the window and made their escape in the night and it is the belief of affiant, that the instrument by which the said bars were sawed into was handed to the said prisoners, throu= =h the iron grates of the window, by some one from without, and further that it has never been customary in this county, for the jailor or any one else to live in the jail And he said jail was securely locked as usual on the night of the said escape and the said prisoners made their escape without the knowledge or connivance or negligence of affiant and after said prisoners made their escape, affiant not being
