Charles Walsh Pres Bank of Mobile Mobile Ala.

Sir.

Your letter of 21st inst has been recieved, for which you will accept my thanks. I sent a few days since by Col E Harrison two hundred bonds of one thousand dollars each; one half of them to be deposited in your Bank, and the other half in the Southern Bank of Alabama, to be held by the Banks until taken up by other bonds, with the interest payable semi-annually, ^& at Mobile which will be ready in a few days. I had hoped that each of the Banks would be able to take one hundred & fifty thousand dollars for the state bonds, but the reasons assigned by you for not taking more than one hundred thousand are of such a character as to prevent me from insisting upon you taking more. I fully appreciate the practical and patriotic motives which actuate the President and Directors of the Bank, and tender them my thanks for what they have done for the state in her emergencies.

A few days since I forwarded you a draft for Eight thousand dollars drawn by W. M. Smith as President of the Bank of Selma, and on yesterday forwarded you another draft for ten thousand dollars drawn by A. C. Jones, [adm... ?] the proceeds of both which I directed to be placed to the credit of D. B. Graham Treasurer of the state of Alabama. There will I presume be no necessity for transfering the proceeds of these drafts and the amount to be loaned by you to the Treasury of the state ^[? ?] as it all will have to be paid out in the City of Mobile.

I may desire the aid of the Bank in disposing of the state bonds. Will inform you in due time.

Very Respectfully Your Obt servt signed A B moore
