[[Dekalb County (Ala.)|Dekalb Co.]] Ala. Apl. 1859.
To HIs Excellency, [[Moore, Andrew B. (Andrew Barry), 1807-1873|A. B. Moore]], Gov.r of the [[Alabama|State of Ala.]]
The undersigned, citizens of said County, & members of the bar practising at said Court, would respectfully represent to your Excellency that at the last term of the [[Circuit courts|Circuit Court]] of the Said County, [[Malone, Reuben J.|Reuben J. Malone]], plead guilty to a charge then leading against him in two certain cases, fo r selling ^spirits liquor^ to a [[Student|student]]. We would say that Mr. Malone, is a highly respected, moral & upright citizen, and that we are satisfied he violated the law in this particular instance through misunderstanding, because a citizen of then State & was ignorant of the statute or the subject of selling liquor to students, believes ^we are satisfied from retiable authorizing that ^the [[Jurys|Jury]] new to whom is was sold were only occasionally; students as the Time. We think this is a case that would call for the interponion of your Excellancy’s clemency, and we cherefers pray Your Excellency to remit said fines of $50.00 in cash of said cases.
