To his Excellency [[Moore, Andrew B. (Andrew Barry), 1807-1873|A B Moore]] Govenor of the State of Alabama

We the under signed members of the [[Jury|jury]] who [[Trial|tried]] and [[Convicted|convicted]] [[Russell, George|George Russell]] of [[Murder|murder]] in the first degree with the [[Capital punishment|death penalty]] at the fall Term 1858 of the [[Circuit courts|Cercuit Court]] of [[Blount County (Ala.)|Blount County]] Alabama in view of the youth of said [[Murderers|Georg Russell]] and his want of all morral training in his raising and in view of the manifest excitement from liquor under which the said George Russel laboured at the time he Struck the fatal blow it having ben done in a Crowded [[Grocery stores|grocery]] where their was some excite—ment about a bet maid by said Russell with another person on a wrestle and the said Russel possably misconstreuing a request of the [[Henry, John|deceased]] (who was Stake holder) to the said Russell to pay up the sum bet into a taunt by the [[Death|deceased]]—in view of all those circumstances the undersigned respectfulley pray your excellency to [[Commuting--Law and legislation|commute]] the punishment of said George Russell to such [[Imprisonment|imprisonment]] in the [[Prisons|Peniten—tiary]] as may seem right to your Excellency—and your Petitioners will ever pray as in duty bound &c John Nimons
