Within the past couple of months, the few French restaurants in the area have closed or relocated, so there was a need for a restaurant specializing in French cuisine. About a month and a half ago, Cr\u00eape du Jour opened its doors in downtown Greenville on Main Street, the busiest street in downtown. After the grand opening, the restaurant has seen large crowds of people eager to try this new French restaurant and they have had much success.<\/p>\n<p>Cr\u00eape du Jour is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they offer a wide variety of cr\u00eapes, coffees, wines, and other staple foods of French cuisine. They offer sweet and savory cr\u00eapes as well as Belgian waffles, benedicts, eggs, meats, and salads. The beverage list offers many different French coffees and wines that bring the entire meal together. Cr\u00eape du Jour has brought French cuisine back to Greenville, South Carolina and the people, including my mother and I, could not be more thrilled. French cuisine has a great influence on the culture of downtown Greenville. The vibes and aesthetics of downtown offer a variety of cuisines and French is one of the cuisines the area was missing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-684 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/site\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/restaurant-281x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"303\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/restaurant-281x300.png 281w, https:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/restaurant.png 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 303px) 100vw, 303px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On October 28, 2017, my mother and I went to Cr\u00eape du Jour for breakfast. The restaurant opened at 8 and we arrived shortly after. As we opened the front door, we walked into what appeared to be a trendy, \u201chole in the wall\u201d coffee shop. To the right, the barista was making all of the beverages and coffees. You could hear the steam coming from the espresso machine and smell the potent aroma of the coffee brewing. Just past him, patrons were able to sit and watch the chefs prepare the cr\u00eapes while they ate their meal. There were about four chefs behind the open grill and they were so intricate in their detail of preparing the cr\u00eapes. The room was lit very lightly, but it added a more intimate vibe to the setting. My mother and I were seated towards the back of the restaurant which, essentially, gave us a front row seat to view the restaurant workers and the guests having breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-683 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/site\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/coffee-bar-254x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/coffee-bar-254x300.png 254w, https:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/coffee-bar.png 393w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once we sat down, our waitress asked us if we had been here before. When we explained this was our first visit, she took the time to go in-depth about almost every menu item the restaurant had to offer. She made sure to answer any questions we had regarding the menu items and was very detailed in her responses. The breakfast menu boasted a large variety of items to choose from and it took us about ten minutes to decide what to order. I ordered the cr\u00eape du sucre with strawberry compote and a side of scrambled eggs. The cr\u00eape du sucre is just a plain cr\u00eape topped with powdered sugar. My mother ordered the house cr\u00eape, which is a cr\u00eape with powdered sugar on top and a side of bacon and eggs. She ordered blueberry compote on the side of her cr\u00eape as well. For beverages, we ordered a chai tea latte and a mocha. My mother downed her chai tea latte so quickly, I am not sure if she even tasted it. My eggs were cold, so I assume they had been sitting out for some time before my waitress brought them to us. My cr\u00eape was a little tough to chew, but the strawberry compote and powdered sugar on top distracted me from the chewiness of the cr\u00eape. Cr\u00eapes resemble a thin pancake; however, my cr\u00eape was a rubbery, thin pancake. \u201cWell, I guess they are being stingy with their bacon,\u201d my mother said when she received two small slices of bacon. However, she said the blueberry compote on top of her cr\u00eape added a decadent, sweetness and she was very impressed. My mother ate her entire meal but I ate about half. Overall, I felt my coffee and meal should have come out warmer and fresher.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-681 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/site\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0495-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"361\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0495-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/adhc.lib.ua.edu\/globalfoodways\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/IMG_0495-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 271px) 100vw, 271px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cr\u00eape du Jour is a relatively new restaurant, so I assume there are plenty of kinks still being worked out by the owner and employees. I do think the environment and staff will help with the overall success of the restaurant, but there are certainly some issues in the kitchen department that need to be resolved in order to achieve ultimate success. The restaurant is still relatively new and after reading online reviews, I have seen the owner take personal responsibility for issues the restaurant has had and he goes above and beyond to fix said issues.
