Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) urges President Trump to &#8220;reconsider&#8221; his plan to visit the city of Kenosha as protests continue over the <a class=\"polaris__link\" href=\"https:\/\/theweek.com\/speedreads\/934754\/jacob-blakes-family-attorneys-witness-dispute-kenosha-police-unions-account-shooting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shooting of Jacob Blake<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Aug 31: HHS Secretary Alex Azar&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/09\/15\/hhs-alex-azar-overrode-fda-testing-rules-415400\">revokes<\/a> the FDA\u2019s ability to check the quality of tests developed by individual labs.&nbsp;Alex Azar unilaterally changes the CDC\u2019s ability to check the quality of tests used by individual labs,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/09\/15\/hhs-alex-azar-overrode-fda-testing-rules-415400\">Politico<\/a> reports. While the move had been supported by universities and private labs in the past, the change was reportedly objected to by FDA Chief Stephan Hahn as well as other experts who believed that the decision risked allowing&nbsp;inaccurate tests into the market during a public health crisis. Politico reports that the tension between Azar and Hahn rose to \u201cscreaming matches\u201d over the issue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sep 1: The United States says it will not participate in an initiative by the WHO to develop, make, and distribute a COVID-19&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajmc.com\/view\/what-we-re-reading-cgm-availability-widens-fauci-on-vaccine-release-us-rejects-global-initiative\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\">vaccine<\/a>.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/detail\/15-07-2020-more-than-150-countries-engaged-in-covid-19-vaccine-global-access-facility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COVAX<\/a>, with 172 countries participating, was launched so that an eventual vaccine could be distributed evenly to poor and developing countries.
