A Beginner’s Guide to WordPress workshop

WordPress is a free content management system used to build websites. WordPress can be used to put your research online, create teaching portfolios, start a blog, or other utilities that may be useful in academia.

WordPress is a great platform for creating your own website, and you can get started with zero programming knowledge. It is also very customizable through themes and plugins.

This workshop will be suitable for all disciplines.

In this workshop, we will cover

  1. Overview of WordPress and what does a content management system do for me?
  2. How to get started
  3. Basic elements of WordPress
  4. How to edit pages/posts
  5. How to change a theme
  6. How to add plugins

Because WordPress requires hosting, if attendees would like to follow along with a WordPress of their own, I recommend acquiring hosting from Reclaim. Reclaim offers 1-click WordPress installation, so this eliminates any need to do your own installation.
