J. [Denyan?] Pres Northern Bank of Alabama J. S. Diskett Huntsville Ala
Sir
Within a few days the state bonds authorised to be issued by an act of the legislature will be prepared and ready for sale. I am anxious that the Northern Bank should purchase a portion of them - as much as $100.000, or as much [? ?] as they may think proper. All of the other Banks will take a considerable amount of them. They will be principally be issued in one thousand and five hundred dollars bonds. The law requires that they should be sold for specie or its Equivalent. As your Bank pays specie for its notes, they would be considered as Equivalent to specie, yet it is important that a portion of the Amount for which the bonds are sold should be paid in specie.
I must beg you to submit this question to the board of Directors and let me know by telegraph at an early a day as possible wht amount of bonds the Bank will take and what propportion of specie it could furnish.
Very Respectfully Your Obt Sevt Signed - A. B. MooreLetter to Northern Bank of Alabama March 16th 1861
